Spain Trip Summer 2023 (Part 1)7/21/2023 Our journey began in Barcelona after enduring a long 12-hour flight from SFO. While our main goal was to visit the enchanting east coast of Spain, known as Costa Brava, we decided that the most efficient way to travel along the coast was by renting a car. Our first destination was the charming town of Lloret de Mar, a perfect place to unwind and swim in the inviting turquoise waters. We found a lovely beachfront Airbnb in Lloret de Mar, which served as our base for the next leg of the trip. The following day, we headed to the iconic Tossa de Mar, renowned for its stunning beaches. With temperatures soaring to 102 degrees, we happily enjoyed ice cream to cool ourselves down. Afterward, we explored the town of Sant Feliu de Guixols, less touristy but rich in history and coastal charm. We then visited Palamos, a small beach town with fewer attractions, but its neighboring city, Parafrugell, offered a livelier atmosphere with numerous beaches and restaurants to choose from. Our next stop was the serene town of Begur, where many retirees have found their tranquil haven. Despite braving the pounding rain, we hiked up a hill and were rewarded with a breathtaking view of the coastline. Begur's medieval staircase was partially flooded, but we managed to climb it, capturing unforgettable moments with our cameras. As night fell, we retraced our steps back to Lloret de Mar. The longest road trip of our adventure took us to Cadaques, a curvy 1.5-hour drive through the mountains. Although the views were spectacular, the constant turns left us feeling hot and queasy. As soon as we reached our destination, we hurried to find some ice cream to rejuvenate ourselves. We also stumbled upon a winery atop one of the mountains near Cadaques, complete with a trampoline and hammocks, and surprisingly, there wasn't a soul in sight. After a relaxing time there, we returned to Lloret de Mar for our final night, where we treated ourselves to an authentic Spanish meal, savoring paella, croquettes, and other delightful Spanish delicacies.
