Experiencing the Indian Wells Finals in Person

Going to see your favorite sport in person is one of the most memorable experiences of a person’s life. For me, that experience was at the 2026 Indian Wells Finals.

I have always wanted to go see a tennis match at one of the prestigious grand slams, but instead I ended up at what many call the “fifth Grand Slam” in tennis behind Wimbledon, French Open, US Open, and Australian Open. The BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells is often called “tennis paradise,” and after being there, I understand why.

The moment I walked into the stadium, the atmosphere felt completely different from watching tennis on TV. The desert mountains under the scorching hot sun and the packed stadium created an energy that made every point feel important. Thousands of fans were focused on the same court, reacting to every rally, every ace, and every break point. It felt like everyone in the stadium was locked into the match together.

One of the biggest things I noticed was how much faster the game looked in person. On TV, tennis already seems fast-paced, but sitting courtside makes you realize just how powerful and precise the players really are. The sound of the ball hitting the racket echoed through the stadium, and you could hear the players’ footsteps sliding across the court as they chased down every ball. When a rally went long, the entire crowd leaned forward, building up more pressure.

Another thing that stood out was how connected the fans felt to the players. A group of fans behind me were what tennis fans call “hecklers” because they shouted in the middle of serves and breaks, which sort of ruined the vibe.

Watching the finals in person made me appreciate tennis in a completely different way. It was an experience that made the sport feel alive.
